WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTS?

Athletes are required to “try-out” for Power & Area Teams.

Tryouts consist of approximately 1.5-2 hours, per age division, competing in volleyball drills.

Coaches evaluate athletes and select players based on skill, age, athleticism, potential, etc. Coaches will meet at the end of the tryout to finalize rosters.

Rosters will be posted on the wall within 15 minutes of the tryout completion. Players and parents will meet with their coach to receive a commitment night packet. Required forms are listed on the Gold Cal Jrs website.

It is suggested to pre-register online for tryouts to avoid the line, however we do accept walk ins. There is not an organized warm up. Court play will begin promptly at tryout time.

WHAT IS GOLD CAL JRS'S PHILOSOPHY ON PLAYING TIME & INVOLVEMENT?

Gold Cal Jrs Volleyball desires our teams to be serious about their commitment to their team. Success of players, coaches and the improvement of each team are dependent on a high level of commitment.

Each player will have opportunities to play volleyball. Players purchase a “seat” on the “team”. The fees do not guarantee playing time. Playing time is at the discretion of the coaching staff, based on several criteria including attendance, practice, attitude, game performance and skill.

The Club volleyball season is approximately 6-7 months, from December thru the May/June.

Practices are generally 2/3 times per week for about 2 hours.

WHAT IS GOLD CAL JRS'S POLICY ON PARENT INVOLVEMENT?

We have an open door policy with our parents and encourage them to communicate with our staff. This policy does not exist during tournaments and practices; we ask that all parents observe a 48 hour rule during and after tournaments to allow for a "cooling off" period before approaching a coach with any staff/parent discussions/issues.

HOW ARE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS COORDINATED?

All travel expenses and lodging are the responsibility of the player/parent. Gold Cal Jrs  partners with hotels to secure room blocks for team tournaments.  Families are expected to stay at club designated hotels unless "Stay and Play" policy does not apply.

"STAY AND PLAY" POLICY

USA Volleyball & individual regions will continue the "Stay and Play" policy. Each team attending the qualifier must book hotel reservations through THS at an approved hotel to be eligible to participate in this event. The approved hotel list is generated by USA Volleyball or the Qualifier and THS.  Some regions have hotel policies but do not use THS for booking.
