Michelle Huber is originally from Visalia, California, where she graduated from Redwood High School in 1990. She began playing volleyball her freshman year in high school, played J.V her sophomore year and finished her junior and senior years on the Varsity squad. The highlight of Michelle’s high school volleyball experience was her senior year (1990) in which her team went undefeated in league and won the West Yosemite League title and continued on to state playoffs.
Upon graduating from Redwood High School, Michelle attended College of the Sequoias Community College in Visalia, California. Michelle was awarded an athletic scholarship and played for the C.O.S. volleyball team. Her main role on the team was a DS and in mid-season became the only setter for the team.
Michelle currently coaches the girl’s J.V. team at Ponderosa High School. Her team has had an extremely successful season with a strong chance of taking first place in league. In addition, her team placed third in gold at the recent Oak Ridge volleyball tournament.
Prior to coaching at Ponderosa, Michelle coached 6 years at Golden Hills School in El Dorado Hills. Michelle coached the girls and boys 7th and 8th grade programs. In addition, Michelle coached an Area 13 team for Gold Cal in the 2008/2009 season.
Michelle’s coaching philosophy- “Coaching requires responsibility in helping players make good decisions in all areas of their lives, as well as, helping players develop discipline, self-motivation and self-worth. The focus of coaching is to create a fun, safe and healthy learning environment that promotes teamwork and mutual respect, while preparing athletes for higher levels of play.”
Michelle has been married for 15 years and has two children. Mason, her son is 11 and Jordyn, her daughter is 9. Michelle currently works at Ponderosa High School where she teaches Child Development and Foods/Nutrition courses, along with coaching the J.V. girl’s volleyball team in the evenings. In Michelle’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Her son is active in football, basketball and baseball, while her daughter is very active in competition cheer at All-Star Cheer.
