Justin is a 1987 St. Anthony High School graduate. He started playing his sophomore year and was a 3-year varsity player. As the team captain his senior year, Justin led his team to a second place finish behind Campbell Hall. Throughout his career, he earned many awards including: Coaches Award as a sophomore, Honorable Mention junior year, All-League 1st Team and Team MVP in his senior year. Following high school, Justin attended the University of California, Berkeley. He played on Cal’s Men’s Club Volleyball Team. He was a three-time 1st team All-American at the Collegiate Club Nationals and was recruited to play at Long Beach State in 1990. Justin finished his college volleyball career at UC Berkeley and graduated with a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis on Physical Therapy.
Justin began coaching in 1989 for Ichiban Volleyball Club. He assisted on several teams and attended several Junior Olympics with a medal earned every time. During this time, he also coached at his alma mater, St. Anthony HS, in 1993. He had the opportunity to coach his youngest sister, Terri, in her senior year. The team completed the regular season with one loss and advanced to the CIF Division I playoffs as the #2 seed. Justin went on to coach the boy’s program at St. Anthony's also. After that season, he took a break from coaching to focus on the new additions to his family, Adam and Taryn.
Justin later relocated to Northern California and got back into coaching after earning his masters in special education. He started at the middle school level at Northside School where he served as the 8th grade coach for two years. In the fall of 2005, Justin agreed to coach the varsity squad at Golden Sierra High School. He lead the team his first year to the Division IV section finals. Justin has enjoyed great success over the recent years at Golden Sierra. They have been league champions every year.
Justin began coaching for Gold Cal in 2006. He was the head coach of the 14-1 team and qualified for Junior Olympics in the American division and finished 25th. He has coached for Gold Cal Jrs for 6 years, ages ranging from 12’s in the training program to 16’s power. Justin has also worked several clinics throughout the years with Gold Cal Jrs.
Justin is a multi-credentialed teacher and currently works at Northside School as the Special Day Class Teacher (K-6). In his spare time, Justin and his family raise Arabian show horses. They are the proud breeders of several Regional and National Champion Halter and Performance horses.
