Club Philosophy

Gold Cal Jrs Volleyball Club believes that  success is a result of developing the players.  Our desire is to provide
opportunity for highly motivated volleyball players to further develop and enhance their skills through participation in USA Volleyball’s Junior Program.  Gold Cal Jrs seeks to offer various programs depending on individual skill levels and the commitment of each player and team.  We are dedicated to structuring programs that focus on providing the best possible opportunities for young athletes to develop basic and advanced volleyball fundamentals.  Our commitment is to help young athletes achieve their individual and volleyball goals, ultimately achieving success and the overall goals for Gold Cal Jrs Club success.

Gold Cal Jrs Team Objectives and Goals

               • Our desire is to provide the best possible coaching at each level, and provide each player an opportunity
to excel.

               • We hope to provide for each player, a positive experience.  We would like every member of every team to feel good about their volleyball experience.  We also would like for players to feel confident about themselves achieving inner excellence www.youthachievingexcellence.com.  Our intension is to promote winning attitudes, and an enjoyable, successful Club volleyball season.

               • We promote good sportsmanship and character, having skilled and professional coaches who seek to exhibit strong leadership qualities.  We would like to develop these important athletic qualities for all of the Gold Cal players.

               • We focus on developing volleyball fundamental skills and advanced techniques.  The Club strives to provide the best possible coaching staff to improve the player’s basic individual game and team fundamentals and to compete at the highest level.

               • We will seek to provide continuing education thru clinics, guest coaches, core strength training with additional opportunities for players and coaching staff to refine and develop their overall skills and capabilities.

               • Our staff pursues “Gold Medal Squared training, a collaborative effort of four of the most successful and experienced coaches in the history of volleyball in the United States.  Dr. Carl McGown, Dr Marv Dunphy, Dr. Doug Beal, and Jim McLaughlin bring over 100 years of combined experience, and have been at the top of the game at every level:  High School, Club, Collegiate, Professional Foreign Leagues and International competition”. – GMS

Playing Time & Time Involvement

               • Each player will have opportunities to play volleyball.  You are purchasing a “seat” on the “team”.  The fees do not guarantee playing time.  Playing time is at the discretion of the coaching staff.

               • The Club volleyball season is approximately five (5) months, from early January thru the end of May.

               • Practices are generally two (2) times per week for about two (2) hours.  Some teams may request more practices and time dependent on need and facility availability.

               • Jackson Sports Academy (JSA) teams have multiple, local weekend, one (1) and two (2) day tournaments.

During the season “Power” teams will play in a division of the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA).   If a team qualifies in the division they play for Junior Nationals.  The tournaments can be one (1) day on a Saturday or Sunday.  Additionally, there will be some two (2) and three (3) day tournaments.

“Power” teams are usually scheduled to travel to two (2) sometimes three (3) National Tournaments.

Gold Cal Jrs Volleyball desires our teams to be serious about their commitment
to their team.  Success of players, coaches and the improvement of each team
are dependent on a high level of commitment.

Think of the pursuit of your dream as being like at a major athletic event.  Train for it.
As you prepare and “exercise” you get stronger – mentally, emotionally, and physically.
To successfully achieve your dream, you need to keep improving.
The best way to do that is to… Keep your body fit ~ Keep your heart flexible
Keep your mind open ~ Keep expanding your comfort zone”.
