Christy’s volleyball career started in middle school and continued through the collegiate level. She played 1 year of JV and 3 years of Varsity Volleyball at Oak Ridge High School. She received numerous awards throughout her high school career including Santa Cruz Harbor Invitational All Tournament Team 2003, Woodland Invitational All Tournament Team 2004, Sheldon Invitational All Tournament Team 2004, All-League Player 2004, All League Player 2005 and All-Metro Honorable Mention 2005. Christy was Varsity Team Captain in 2005, was selected to play in the All Star Optimist Volleyball Match in 2005 and earned the Coaches Award at the end of her 2005 season. Additionally, her team won both their Conference and Section in 2005.
Her Club Experience consisted of six years of power league, her first two years at Force Volleyball Club and her remaining four years at Gold Cal Jrs Volleyball Club. Throughout her club volleyball career Christy played in the Junior Olympics in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. Christy went on to play two years as a starting outside hitter at Sacramento City College where her team took 2nd place in their conference and 3rd place in the state in 2006, and in 2007 took 1st place in their conference and 4th place in state. Christy won such awards as SJCC All Tournament Player 2006 and 2007. She was also awarded All-Conference 1st Team and All-Nor Cal Team 2007. From Sac City Christy went on to play volleyball as a starting outside hitter at California State University East Bay in 2008 where her team finished their season with an overall record of 29-5.
Christy is fairly new to the world of coaching, as she has just recently finished her own volleyball career, but was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to coach in 2009 for Slainte 14-1. Christy has a great love and respect for the game of volleyball and feels that it is crucial as a coach to facilitate development for each individual player. This includes development of both technical skill and cognitive understanding of the game, which will help each player to go on and play volleyball at whatever level she desires. Christy is also
First Aid and CPR Certified.
Christy is currently working part time and pursuing her degree in Kinesiology full time at Sacramento State University, with a concentration in Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education and Health Education. Her second favorite sport to volleyball is soccer and she plays on in an outdoor coed soccer league in Folsom. She also enjoys any kind of outdoor activity she can access; camping, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and wakeboarding are her favorites. |
